Riley in fire fight with dems….again…..

April 28, 2007

Governor Riley seems to be in constant battle with Dems and educational leaders who are always out to pad their pocketbooks.  Seems they are more concerned with self than they are with the children of this great state.  Read about Governor Riley’s latest battle by clicking here.

Abraham Lincoln quote……

"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale, and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled or hanged."

So, who would you add to the list of growing "saboteur" candidates?

Natalee Holloway

Mountain Brook, Alabama teenager, Natalee Holloway has been missing for two years.  I cannot imagine the pain her family has gone through and continues to go through.  There is activity in the investigation again.  Read the article here.  Please join in and pray that this family will finally get some resolution to the disappearance of this young girl.

Governor Riley called for a boycott of Aruba until something could be determined about this case.  I for one will never go to Aruba.  NEVER.

Please pray.

Travel Expenses of Presidential Candidates….

April 27, 2007

In an era of purchasing carbon offsets and "let’s save the planet", it is interesting to note that on this one night, all the democratic Presidential candidates flew to tonight’s debate in South Carolina via private jet or specially chartered flights.  Specific details can be found here.

They are such an environmentally aware group, they probably just bought some of those carbon offset credits……..oh yeah, that’s right, those were deemed bogus wastes of money.  Now what are they going to do?

Office space…..

I love serving with the AFRW.  We get good things accomplished and our voice is growing in volume and strength.  When I’m not serving with the AFRW, I am a full-time professional photographer, wife and mom.  I work from an office at home.  My office is nothing special.  Lots of tables, organizational baskets, a computer, phone, a couple of printers, lots of photographic printer paper, camera equipment, inks…you get the picture.  I need to redo the office, but funds are limited.  Limited funds describes the situation of most small business owners, many who do their work on a part time basis.

So imagine my surprise when I read the following story describing the amounts of money that state senators are spending on their office "redos".  (click here for more details)

Serving as a state legislator is a part time job.  Because of a self-voted pay raise that part-time job now pays almost $50,000 per year.  According to this article at least 10 Democratic senators have spent almost $40,000 redecorating and furnishing their offices.  I must tell you I’m more than a bit ticked off about this.  While I work from "what I can afford" and work hard to make my way, at least 10 Democratic Senators from across this state have decided to use public funds to spruce up their offices AND accept bloated salaries for their part time jobs.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we all had a public fund to go to when we want to spruce up our business.  How nice would it be to never have to work to achieve rewards, just take it.  Actually no, that wouldn’t be nice.  Because then we would all be as disgusting as our state dems, especially the leadership.

I’m a bit royally miffed discouraged that our public servants have no idea what it means to be a servant.  They serve us.  They shouldn’t MOOCH off of us.  I wish there was a nice way to state that, but nice words fail to describe what "mooch" fully illustrates.

Democrats showing their true colors.

Senate and House vote for pull out of Iraq and against troops.  Details here and here.

Democratic Congressmen Cramer and Davis from Alabama voted against the troops.

Republican Congressmen Aderholt, Bachus, Bonner, Everett, and Rogers all voted for the troops.

The vote pretty much fell along party lines.  (Shock)

President Bush will of course Veto.

The children who go to school in a post Columbine, 9/11 and VT world

April 24, 2007

When the Columbine shootings occured, my oldest son was very young…..now he’s not.  He turned 16 as of yesterday.  When 9/11 happened, he was in 3rd grade.  Now as a freshman, he’s lived through the VT shootings.  So much violence in such a short life. And what bothers me the most is that it’s violence that is on a national level.  Violence that is recognized and analyzed on a national, even global level.  Living in a 24-7 News Cycle, we experience things close to the heart that would have just a few years ago, not even been known about except on a local level.

Just today a child in Texas came to school with an active hand grenade.  In the past week there have 6 episodes of lockdown in North Alabama schools.  It’s even happened today in our own state.  At Lawrence County High School there are threats that a child brought a loaded handgun to school.  We are hearing these things all over the country.  But it takes on a new level of horrible when it is local and directly affects our children.

So as a mom, aunt, Godmother, friend, business woman and as a political activist, is there anything I can do?  Is there anything any of us can do?  As we look to the future and what we need to do to make this country the best place it can be, is there anything we can do to curb this violent atmosphere that plagues the generation of my children?

Is the "War on Terror" something we must fight at all levels?  Even with local mentally ill individuals?  It’s hard to even know what terrorism really is.  In 4 different dictionaries, there are 4 different definitions.  The American Heritage Dictionary defines terrorism as "the unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of coercing."  It’s terrifying to realize that my own children could be the target of unlawful use of force or violence.  That fact, and it is a fact, is enough to terrorize a nation….a state….a community….a school….a family….an individual heart.

Is this something that must be addressed on a global level, a national level, a state level, or a local level?  Surely this isn’t something we have to just learn to live with.
